Well recently picked her up as my off road project. She's got a list of common issues that plagued the xj's but she's got a straight body and engine is strong! Got a long arm lift kit coming in soon and I can't wait to get her trail ready

Here is my 1980 CJ5

Here is my 1980 CJ5 . . .

I HATE YOU! (Unless you know a cheap way to drop a 350 small block into my YJ! I have a decent 383" stroker motor I can detune for the street! Hahaha!)

I had a '50 Willys with a 289 that was fast and got decent mileage.

Now I have a YJ with a 6 cyl. that sucks gas but not asphalt!

The Warden's '90 Cherokee, 4.0 6 cyl. was okay. The 4.2 I have is a dog! Maybe 10-11 MPG!

What's the trick, while staying below the cost of a second mortgage?

They make a conversion to put the 5.3 in there with all the electronics pretty cheap. That had been popular with the jeep guys. You can get very good power out of that motor. Cam and tune they become torque whores!!

The one thing I don't want is electronics! Technology hates me!

Give me a good old carb any time.

Today is the day I start my jeep build. We are starting the custom longs arm kit today and should be finished sat. Next step is some rims and 33 inch tires followed by armor.

Got some goodies in yesterday. Next weekends project.

Shaun Murphy induction out of Huntington beach built mine. i dont have over drive in the car but its supporting 600hp should have no problem getting mid 20s on the high way with it. you give him all your cam specs, heads, intake, exhaust...........and so on and they custom build one for you

I've had good luck with Holleys, and I also have a new Edelbrock waiting for a home. I don't need or want 600hp. The 413hp in my '66 El Camino is enough for this grandpa!

I'm probably going to trade the drag motor I have for a tame 350, and try to stuff that into the Jeep sometime down the road.

400 will still scoot you down the road! and with the '66 it sounds like there's some classic style in there too! didnt start out looking for 600, just started building and didnt know when to stop. i may have a problem.

Should I post my Rzr? lol

Bringing this thread back.

Just got rid of my F150 for an FJ Cruiser. Looking forward to getting back out on the trails!
