Slightly less with a smaller target. Gotta decide which size to go with.

Nice. I would only recommend add some steel 2x4 armor. It will save you the time and dollars off replacing the 2x4 as much. The angle of the target will chew up your 2x4 with bullet frag. Not completely required but man it's well worth it IMO

Bigger target is more fun for sure... But smaller target will build your skill up better. In true America fashion... Get both!
Honestly I would get the bigger one first. You can set it up at long range for rifle work as well... Just remember 200 yards plus for 223 and fast rifle rounds (3000fps +)

I shoot my Ar500 steel at 75+ . TA Targets 1/2” ar500 they suggest 30 yards minimum for 223/556.

While this is fine probably initially, you will likely start seeing small craters or pock marks from 223 at that range (specifically at that velocity)

I would not shoot close range pistol on targets with pitting or craters though especially jacketed bullets. I have a rifle target that is only used for rifle because of this. I only shoot smooth face pistol steel.

Oh I forgot to say the whole hostage head target idea is for skill. I figured that would be small enough to work.

Well, after 3 years, and some steel I have been shooting for 5 years. Only scars are from shooting it with 17hmr at 25 yards...ooops. Even hammer it with 8mm at 75.
