What do you guys do on the radios?

I have a small ranch in Amargosa Valley, it's the weekend place for now, but I will retire there in the not so distant future. I have a UTV that has a GMRS unit in it, and I'll soon have my base portable base station and mobiles in my two 4X4's. So communicating in the rural areas is much easier. Studying for my HAM license, and then I'll be going down that rabbit hole!!!

Well it's been converted so technically it's illegally modified. But if course there's probably a bunch in the trucking community. Mine is a discontinued DX45HP.
 
A LOT of S can hit the fan before the repeaters are affected. And a lot of critical messages can just be relayed around in short order without repeaters when necessary.
 
Some places repeaters might be down due to EMP, ours here in Nye County won't be, they are shielded against it. And they all have solar panels plus wind generators with battery backup in addition to being on AC mains and having propane generators on their sites. We planned ahead.
And we have backup repeaters stored in EMP proof containers, that can be taken to the existing sites or others and set up quickly.

HF, VHF and UHF simplex comms would still work as long as the radios are working. And you can always set up relays to span distances greater than VHF or UHF travel in line of sight.

All repeaters will cease operations at 20:00 local time so that President Potato can sleep more, and work less. The work day will commence once a fresh depends is installed. No emergencies from 11:00 to 13:00 allowed. It is nap time.
 
Does Heidi still live out there in Pahrump?
 
She moved, but she's been back for awhile, New place on the north end of town.

Naw, just saw her in Smith's a month or so ago and heard her telling someone that she was back living in town.
