Any of you gents delved into this? seems so incredibly expensive for what they are.

Have any of you made your own set ups?

I have, and you are correct, it is incredibly expensive. If you can wait until black Friday, rugged radios has these "full kits" on sale for the cheapest price you can get anywhere, however, it's still going to be very expensive. Wait until you want PRP seats, steering wheel, bags, shift boot, grab handles, lol.

lol just had long travel and a custom cage done. have lights and coms and seats and harnesses left. what sort of deals we talking on black friday? aces has a seat sale right now for 4 seats for like 1200$

You'll regret buying aces seats over PRP, I know that for sure. The quality just isn't there. I think the black Friday sale for rugged pits them right about where you're looking with that set above. Look at https://www.buggywhip.com/ for your whips, they are expensive, but there's none that comes close to how bright they are. Also, look up Heretic lights. I changed out my headlights and didn't need a light bar after.

I was looking at Baja's laser series, seems to be like industry leading in far spot. they make a kit with 3 cubes that replace my oem lights that covers a handful of "zones", not sure it thats a legit thing or their own idea.

Go to the Las Vegas SXS on Facebook. Just tell them you’re looking for one

Rugged Radio systems are not cheap, but they are certainly worth it. I have installed one in my 2021 Polaris General, and I love it. I installed a tall antenna for my GMRS base station at my Ranch, It gives me comms back to the ranch from nearly all over the Amargosa Valley. The intercom and headsets is very nice as it cuts road noise down considerably, and I don't have to yell to my three passengers.

I regularly use the Baofeng UV-5r radio with the Rugged Radio ear muffs/headset. A cable connecting the headset to the two prong Baofeng radio will also be needed. Everything is available on Amazon. I have found that it works really well. Some people get their Baofeng radios programmed with specific radio frequencies. But, I just manually punch in the frequency that the group is using. I have a list of channels and their corresponding frequency if you want one.

The Baofeng earpiece and mic are crap. It didn't work at all in the noisy SxS environment. The Rugged Radio headset is also works very well for hearing protection. If you want to protect your head as well, their half helmet is designed to work with the headset. I've ridden in groups of up to 10 cars and and receive/transmit well with other members using in car mounted radio systems. I'm sure theirs has more power, but I've found the Baofeng to be good enough for a LOT less money. The extended battery is plenty for an all day ride.

This is for talking with other cars. Not for talking with passengers. I usually don't have one.
