Catalog description:
This proud, distinctive Winchester firearm is a tribute to the American whose Western roles and patriotism made him a legend in his own time. Offered in a limited edition of fifty thousand, this commemorative carbine fuses forever the name of John Wayne with "the gun that won the West."
A unique feature is the oversized bow on the lever, introduced by John Wayne in "Stagecoach" and popularized in all of his Western movies. The pewter-plated receiver is decoratively engraved with scenes of an Indian attack and a cattle drive. A border design highlights titles of Wayne's most famous Western movies. Finger lever, lower tang, and barrel bands are pewter-finished, and John Wayne's signature is engraved on the upper tang.
Embedded in the buttstock is a nickel-silver medallion bearing a bas-relief portrait of Wayne against the rugged scenery of Monument Valley. The buttstock and extended forearm of selected American walnut feature deep cut checkering and a protective satin finish. In traditional frontier style, the square comb stock is fitted with a curved wrap-around buttplate of highly polished, blue steel.
The 18 1/2" round barrel is engraved with the silver-colored legend "John Wayne Commemorative." The barrel is deeply blued, highly polished, and has a blade post front sight and semi-buckhorn rear sight. A blued saddle ring with leather thong and a full-length magazine tube holding five cartridges complete the traditional Western look of this exceptional commemorative carbine, chambered for the classic 32-40 Winchester cartridge.
