So, I was monitoring 446.175 right now. A woman's voice came and in Spanish (I'm fluent) said, "The first one arrived." A man responded "Ok, all good." Then a few minutes later she comes on and goes, "The second one isn't there?" and the man responds, "No."

All in Spanish, no call signs. Very short, very nondescript. Seems....weird, but I'm pretty new to HAM and GMRS. Is this somewhat common?

Years ago my friend was the Marshal of Tombstone Arizona. The had Mexican cartels using their official frequencies and repeaters. They finally upgraded the system to digital, and that seemed to stop the cartel traffic.

Knowing cartel operations like it do, nothing surprises me about them using GMRS for transport. They were using the old Nextel direct connect until NSA finally let the Federal Agencies in on the technology to intercept and decrypt the Nextels.

I'm sure most use their god'vernment provided DHS phones .....

You intercepted the bouncy house delivery. Nothing else.

GMRS was the rage for dopers for a long time. With the security of modern communication, no one uses it any more. I have seen it in small border groups and groups in MX. The two local guys that would run a channel here have taken down their antennas. They said it was used for their landscaping service

My guess is the cartels in general are relatively sophisticated with their comms with all the $$ that they have access to and which is at stake in their business.

They can buy things, but a lot of the time it seems like they can barely use them. I've seen quite a few gadgets attached the wrong way on guns in their photos :)
