I’m moving 2k miles away. I need boxes of all types, a truck, and enclosed trailer. Or a moving truck. Let me know what you got.
 
Craigslist free stuff has free moving boxes.
 
Not sure why you would want to buy a truck to move in , right now just to get an appt at DMV to get a plate is a few months wait.
As mentioned above , just rent .

That's what I did when I moved here. Already had a pickup, but I bought a big enclosed utility trailer for a good price, used it to move, then sold it for $300 more than I paid for it after I was done. Instead of spending money to rent a truck and paying a very hefty mileage charge(which this guy in particular should be concerned about with the length of his move), I in fact made money by buying and then reselling the trailer. I never registered the trailer, just bought it, used it, had it for about 3.5 weeks and passed it on with the title signed by the previous owner. Worked beautifully. Saved a fortune vs. renting a truck.

When you have free cash in your pocket, your options open up even more to save money in so many ways. Just gotta think outside the box.
 
I agree IF you find the right truck , or are able to do your own repairs. I know I would not buy a vehicle to drive cross country without having it gone over ( like you , I do my own auto repairs ). Buying a trailer is pretty easy , not a whole lot to go wrong , but a tow rig , whole diff story. Especially if driving it a couple thousand miles.

For one way non local moves , uhaul doesnt charge mileage . Indeed it is not cheap . Never priced a POD or UPACK. Might be a viable option.
 
Why would anyone want to move away from fabulous Las Vegas?
I don't know how legal sixgun's suggestion is. Hate to be pulled over in BFE, and trailer is not allowed on road.

Every state allows a certain amount of time before you're required to register it. Then every state also allows a certain amount of time before you're required to register vehicles and trailers when you move there as a new resident. Further still, the worst case scenario is that you get a ticket for lack of registration. There's no circumstance where a legally purchased vehicle or trailer that you just purchased will "not be allowed" on the road. If you're really paranoid about it, you get a moving permit and you're 100% in compliance.

All that said, I seriously doubt many people are getting pulled over for registration/plate issues right now when they aren't otherwise doing anything wrong/illegal or attracting undue attention.

I'm also assuming that anybody who is planning on buying a truck/trailer to use to move already understands all of this, as there is zero sense in registering said vehicles in a state you're actively moving from.
 
Yeah I’ll date the bill of sale and get a temp tag for Alabama. It’ll give me 30 days before I need to register it. I’ve done all this before multiple times. I’m just looking for a half ton-3/4 ton truck for $4-12k and a 17-20 foot enclosed trailer for $3-5k... I’ll find the boxes.

It's amazing how so many options open up in life when you just think outside the box a little bit.. good luck with your whole move. That's a pretty big price range for a truck, so you shouldn't have any trouble finding something good to go.

Whether you're planning on keeping the truck when you get there or plan on reselling it, I'd research what the hot sellers are where you're going. If you're going to sell when you get there, buy something that's a hot seller there so it's an easy resell when the time comes.

That’s smart. Don’t think I’ll sell it but I guess I will research and ask all my family and friends what is in supply/demand there. I was hoping people on here had trucks or trailers.

I'd take a look on the local craigslist site to see what's for sale and see what prices are like where you're going. That'll give you the best perspective, as people will interject their bias and misconceptions into the conversation when you ask them. Not that they can't potentially provide some insight as well, but looking at the market itself will give you the clearest picture.

That is incorrect , according to NV DMV:
To drive any vehicle on any public street, you must have liability insurance and either a full registration or a valid movement permit.
 
I’ll have insurance the second I buy it with usaa. Temp permit is the sketchy thing. That’s why I’m gettin an Alabama one. They are a lot less strict.

Isn't that what I said? Get a moving permit if you want to be 100% in compliance.

Insurance goes without saying, as anything you drive on the road requires insurance without exception. Not something I even have to think about though, as I have an operator's policy that covers me no matter what I drive.

It is NOT allowed on the road until legally registered or you have a stupid movement permit. Just buy PURCHASING it , you do not have the permission of the crown to operate it on public streets ( yes its a stupid law , and I doubt even being enforced right now ).

Nope, don't agree. Every state allows a grace period when purchasing a vehicle as well as when first moving to a new state. If you just bought it within that grace period, your vehicle/trailer will not be impounded due to lack of registration. You will receive a ticket for it at most.

Is there some technicality under which a dictatorial officer could impound it? Sure, I suppose so.. but the same holds true in all kinds of circumstances if you want to really get down to it.
