Wow.....someone drilled and tapped an original WWI Kar98, predecessor of the K98. Beautiful rifle.
The WW1 rifle was the fullsize "Gewehr" G98. The WW2 "Karabiner" K98k is also known as a Kar 98k. It was common to drill and tap them a few generations ago. We see lots at the local vintage matches.

I don't think that exact Mauser was ever issued to any country in that caliber, but I suspect it would not keep you from shooting a local match. There have been other Mausers in .30-06 that were issued in some. It meets the spirit of the game with no real competitive advantage, in my opinion as an absolute nobody in any sort of position of authority.

The Norwegian’s re-barreled a ton of post war K98’s into 30-06. I believe the barrel in this rifle is a Norwegian new old stock barrel, can’t confirm it unless it’s taken apart which I haven’t done. If a match or match director would allow a Norwegian K98 then this should be allowed as well but I’m certainly no expert. Good question tho, it made me read up on it.
