If you want a plinker for the kids, may I respectfully recommend a 10/22 instead? Initial cost is less, ammo cost is less, and by adding military style peep sights and a sling swivel, it becomes a very effective training gun. Add a match grade barrel like those from Feddersen and you have a competition quality gun. https://tooeleshootingsupply.com/shop/ruger-1022-carbine-blued-finish-wsynthetic-stock-1151/
Already have one they started on the 10/22 also they had 22 pistols. Older now like the HI P 995 like the fact it's 9mm. Same caliber as pistols I have. Thought it would be fun for them good price point also
Hk Vp9, P89 and 2 Security 9's (each boy has 1).
Saw the Sub 2000 just leaning towards the HP 995 they can have fun and customize it and wont break the bank.
If you can swing the extra, the Ruger PC Carbine is top-notch, and uses the same magazines as your Ruger Security-9 pistols. I use mine in Steel Challenge matches and general-purpose fun, especially suppressed.
But the Hi-Point 995 does have an excellent reputation. I've shot one and it was extremely accurate, too.
