Employment/Jobs - helping our members!

I've met several people that are working more than one job to make ends meet. Funny how some people are out of work or underemployed and others are working multiple jobs. The world is really out of balance!

Got this in an email from Carlito's burritos.... great place to eat.

corner of patrick and pecos.

Hi everyone. We are looking to hire a part-time cashier to start this week, so please email me your resumes. Please do not stop in the store expecting to be able to discuss the opening without making prior arrangements to do so (calling in the middle of lunch would also be a bad idea). This job pays $9/hr.

  • Must have flexible availability. Initial shifts will be primarily nights and weekends, but there may be other shifts as business demands.
  • Must be over 21
  • Must already have health and TAM cards
  • Fluent English is required, bilingual in Spanish is a plus
  • Restaurant server experience is preferred. Although this is a cashier position, you will not only be working the register but serving food, making drinks, cleaning tables, etc.

I thought age cutoff for the military was like 34 or 35...?
Actually all the different branches have different cut off ages. Below is what I have found for all the various branches through their individual web pages.

To become an Enlisted Soldier in the U.S. Army, you must be:
* A U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien
* 17-41 years old
* Healthy and in good physical condition
* In good moral standing
* Have a High School Diploma or equivalent

http://www.goarmy.com/about/warrant_officer.jsp
To become a Warrant Officer in the U.S. Army, you must be:

Army National Guard - 42
http://www.nationalguard.com/careers/become-a-soldier/requirements-for-enlistment
Most people between the ages of 17 and 42* qualify for the Army National Guard. However, we do have a few strict guidelines. Read on to see how you measure up.

*Applicants with no prior military service must not have reached their 42nd birthday prior to shipment to Basic Combat Training. Certain states have lower age limits.

Active duty Air Force - 27/34

Air Force Reserve - 34/39/46
http://afreserve.com/?:Frequently Asked Questions#FAQs
If you haven't served before, you have to join before you turn 35. Exceptions would be for medical professionals, clergy and attorneys.

If you have served before, you would have to join before you are 40, plus the time served. For example, if you served in a military branch for six years, you could join up through about age 46.

The idea is that you must be able to get 20 good years of service in before you turn 60.

NP I had actually bookmarked all those, I was looking at possibly joining the military as I am still out of work. Unfortunately, I am 36 and on the top edge of the physical requirements so I am just outside the range for most branches...

Unfortunately, I'd probably have to do what Kyle did and get a lapband in order to get into the acceptable height/weight range:lkick:

I am moving in about a month and wanted to put a feeler out there to see if any guys on NS would like to make some money moving my boxes and furniture in and out of the moving truck since I can't do heavy lifting. We are moving a whole house full of stuff so it would be a day or two of work for a couple guys.

Thanks

Any of you guys looking seriously into the military, mainly army, let me know and get you squared away with a good recruiter station. Bunch of great helpful guys that aren't pushy

Front Sight Just Hired 10 Instructors and Looking for More..

Well, we are half way through 2010 and it looks like we will double again for the 14th straight year!

It seems everywhere I look, businesses big and small are cutting back, laying people off, as a result of the economy.

Well, that is NOT what is happening to Front Sight. We are NOT laying anybody off! Just the opposite, we are HIRING!

We are looking for more good men and women as we continue to grow and expand.

Much like in the Marine Corps, where everybody is a rifleman first and then fills other specialty positions, at Front Sight everyone is a firearms instructor first, and then fills other specialty positions.

So Front Sight is looking to hire firearms instructors.

Do you have what it takes to become a Front Sight Instructor?

You may be surprised at what we look for in the people we hire.

Sure, if you are already a retired military or law enforcement instructor we can easily train you technically to become a Front Sight Instructor, but there is much more to being part of the greatest instructional staff in the world than just having firearms experience.

It is through our Instructor Development Program, we CREATE great firearms instructors from GREAT people.

If you are what we are looking for, then we can train you to be a great instructor. If you already have firearms instruction experience, it just makes our job easier.

Click on the video link below to determine if you have the right stuff to become part of the Front Sight Firearms Training Instructional Staff.

If you think you have what it takes, then E-Mail ME Your Resume. (It says in the video to call a number, but you can short cut that process by just e-mailing me your resume.)

And remember while you watch the video that there are REASONS why Front Sight has doubled each and every year through the same obstacles that cause corporate giants to lay off thousands of people.

First and foremost, EVERY member of our staff, from the top of the organization to the most recent hired team member LEADS BY EXAMPLE.

1: We consistently provide our students with an experience that is MORE than they expect.

2: We consistently provide our students with an experience that is BETTER than they expect.

3. We consistently provide our students with GREATER VALUE than they expect.

If you think you too can deliver MORE, BETTER, GREATER and have what it takes to be trained as a Front Sight Instructor, then watch this video and E-Mail ME Your Resume. (It says in the video to call a number, but you can short cut that by just e-mailing me your resume.)

http://www.frontsight.com/video/front-sight-instructors.asp

A full time Front Sight Range Master earns approximately $50,000 per year by imparting the Comfort of Skill at Arms to the law abiding citizens who seek Front Sight's world class firearms training experience.

Numerous part time instructor positions are available as well for those who can dedicate their part-time firearms instruction exclusively to Front Sight.

All training and instructing is conducted on our 550 acre facility near Las Vegas, Nevada.

Click on the video link below to determine if you have the right stuff to become part of the Front Sight Firearms Training Instructional Staff. If you think you have what it takes, then E-Mail ME Your Resume. (It says in the video to call a number, but you can short cut that process
by just e-mailing me your resume.)

The Wynn / Encore are looking to fill a few positions in the Engineering Dept. The positions are for "steady extra" status (full-time but no benefits). Go to the website and see if you fit in. The pay is good, but no benefits. Better than nothing.

Flooring contractor needed.

My dad and I bought a house and we want to install tile downstairs and an awning in the back yard to cover the patio.

I am looking for a licensed bonded contractor that can show me an example of thief work. I thought I would check here before just going through the yellowpages. PM me.

Thanks for posting, it might help someone here. When we bought our house many years ago, the patio needed a cover, we called a place called "Do it yourself patio covers" (Eastern and Warm Springs), they came out and measured the area, and soon they dropped off the materials and instructions. It took a couple weekends, but I did manage to do it myself. The savings was probably over $1,000 just in labor. I didn't have a easy time of it, but did save some cash. You also have to file the building permit with the city. Just a thought.

Just curious...

Is there a centralized listing of casino jobs or should I look at each casino's website?

I have about 10 years of experience in the gaming field (CA tribal gaming).
Approx 3.5 years working in surveillance and approx 6 years working in gaming control.

I've been waiting for the NGCB to post openings, but I doubt they'll be hiring in the next couple of years due to the state gov hiring freeze.

I'm about done with CA (due to the taxes), any hints/comments on where I should look for employment in NV?

Lake Tahoe (for gaming) has taken some serious hits. We've lost a casino in South Lake (Bill's I believe) and on the north side Cal Neva has shut down. The reason? I hear Indian casinos (e.g. Red Hawk going up on US 50 on the way to South Lake) are a big cause, combined with the economy.

Jobs here are seasonal. Places (e.g. Hard Rock, Heavenly, etc.) hire for the seasonal tourist events here. About three months it was for the summer season, and around October it'll be for the winter season. A lot of residents (e.g. my neighbor runs 3 boats on the lake including a 55' cat) work hard during a few months, save and then relax for the rest of the year. If you have the wherewithal and can stand the ebb/flow (shoulder season is horrible for many people) you can make it.

Also, construction here appears dead. Another neighbor has been out of work (20 year carpenter) for about 2 years. He's been here for 20 and splits his time between Tahoe and MN. He's gone all the way down the LV to look for work and is basically saying everything up and around here is shot. Give it another month and he's heading to Salt Lake City. The other guy in construction on my street has been out of it for about a year and is now starting to look, hard. However, someone did spend $150k+ on remodeling a home three houses down, so that money is still around, just hard to get a grab of.

Every place has taken hits. Times are tough.

I'll throw mine in...

I'm 25, unemployed for over a year. I'm a good worker and a perfectionist with very high standards. My main trade is woodworking. I managed a woodshop for over a year but i've been woodworking since high school. I've done tile work- I tiled my whole house including big backspash. I've done new construction plumbing, retail work, I was Asst. Mgr. at a local lube shop. I've done auto repair, been a supply driver for a masonry company. I've done a little bit of just about everything you can think of, mostly as do-it-yourself type of stuff. I have apretty good list of talents/hobbies that I am good at: Woodworking, woodcarving, sculpture, oil painting, photography, model cars, Gemcutting, jewelry-making, tile mosaics...

I'd really like to get into something along the lines of Gemstones or woodworking, but I will take anything I can get. I've been applying for jobs here in Vegas and in Colorado, where my sister has a bed for me, for over a year with no luck. Any help would be a Godsend.

If anyone can keep their ears out for my unemployed father too... He's laid off from Southern Nevada Paving for almost a year. He has a lot of experience with the paving crews and is an "Operating Engineer", operating heavy equipment. I think he has about 8+ years experience with each. He really needs a job.

Thanks for this thread!

Hiring for Utility Company

I'm currently looking to fill three tech positions.

-Must be able to pass background and drug test.

-Must have vehicle with valid registration and insurance.

-Some electronic/technical background a plus.

Please call (702) 324-3703

OK so I saw Sideforce post a "Looking for Work" Thread so I figured I would too.

My experience is in CAD design and CAD/IT management (Computer Aided Design/Information Technologies) this equals about 19 years of experience. The experience lies mainly in Civil Engineering Design but I have also worked in Architectural, and Mechanical Engineering firms.

I have a Technical Degree in Architectural Engineering Design, and a Technical Certificate in Mechanical Engineering design.

Right now I am looking for ANYTHING as I have been out of work now for way too long!! The industry in which I have experience in has all but tanked and I am more than willing to change careers. I am looking for any job that will pay me at least 30K a year ($15 an hour) which is taking a pay cut of more than 50% of my previous pay...

My hope is to find something in Engineering or if I need to change, something in Law Enforcement or Armed Security as I believe I would do well in those fields.

Thanks, ANY leads or help getting a "foot in the door" somewhere would be greatly appreciated!

Hello all, I will be posting job listing in general forms area titled "HIRING". Job details will be there. Thanks

Hiring

Hello,

The company I work for is hiring. The job is installing cable for COX. We provide paid training, and are willing to work with you on required tools. Must be able to pass background check and drug screening. Must have pick-up or suv that you are willing to put a ladder rack on, as we drive our own vehicles. Must have valid licence, registration and insurance. The job involves hights and tight places at times, so you must be able to deal with both.
Once out of training, how much you make is up to you, as it is piece work pay. Most techs average around $50,000 annually but did have one hit 115,000 last year. Its a good job, but not for everyone.
