Desert racing on either side of Tonopah today?

Was driving back from Reno today and noticed what looked like either several smaller races, or one really big race, going on in the desert on both sides of Tonopah (going out quite a ways on both sides).

Anyone know what that was? S'cuse my ignorance ;)

Ohh front row seats. Stop and watch for a bit
 
I did pull over to watch a section that was particularly close to the road so I could see what type of vehicles were racing and paced a few that were running parallel to the freeway for speed. They were hauling ass :)
