I could never get used to that funky fan belt on a Corvair, My Uncle had a corvair with a Kelmark V8 conversion, I got a few rides in it but it was always breaking parts.

I bought a Corvair from a roommate in the 70's for $100. Had the push button transmission. Drove it for about a year.

And just today I saw a VW station wagon. Haven't seen one of those in 20 years.

As cool as the Kelmark kits were the hot set up for a Corvair is a G Body frame swap...

My first project car was a Bug. It was a 71 Super, so it had the strut suspension in the front but still had the flat windshield. I lucked into a set of 4-lug Fuchs wheels from a 914 owner for cheap from Craigslist. Those rims were probably worth more than the rest of the car combined. It was a basket case when I bought it (leaking gas, rattlecan primer paint job, rough interior, etc.) but a great project, and I do miss it...

1967 VW Baja with a 2054cc stroker engine. My daily driver. Oh yeah, did I mention that it snows sometimes up here in Reno!

I had a '70 with an auto-stick transmission. It was an adventure lol
I dated a checker when I was bagging groceries at Smith's, 38 years ago. She had a yellow SuperBeetle with the clutchless stick. Same thing?
I learned to drive in that car. Oh yeah...Good times.

Mine, got it when I was 16 , spend about a year bringing it back to life. It took a lot of work being as it was pulled out of a field in Western PA.

Sold it about a year after moving to LV when I got the motorcycle bug. (( sold the car , kept the girl )).

Fix up the body, drop in a supercharged V8 with about 700 HP and you would be all set. Never mind the six inches of area between you and the brick wall.
Sacrilege and would ruin the value. Leave as is, and drive it :)
