I took and passed my Ham Radio Technician License Exam yesterday, so now begins the long trip down the HAM radio rabbit hole!! Luckily the members of the Amargosa Valley Radio Club will be giving me guidance on my trip through HAM Radioland!

Congrats, you got your ticket AND Survived Jack, Craig, Dan, Bob, Brett and the rest of the gang!

Awesome!

@NYECOGunsmith is gonna talk you into some Yaesu radios, for sure!!! (They should be paying him for his endorsement of their products!) :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

In a SHTF scenario having this knowledge of communication is vital. Ugh, I just have to make time for this stuff.

And then of course there are all the modes, AM, FM, single side band, Morse code, RTTY, PSK31, FT4, FT8, FST4W, ECHO, JS8CALL,, MSK144,Q65, SSTV,FSTV, JT9,JT65,WSPR, etc.

In a SHTF scenario ..... Ain't nobody but the HAM Geezers gonna care

So it’s been probably 2 years now since I did the same thing. Bought couple radios and have done exactly nothing more. Can you experts suggest a good place to start now actually learn how to do this? Good YouTube channel for newbies? Local gatherings by chance? All this chatter has got me realizing I need to continue with what I started.

Thanks fellas.

Consider joining the Las Vegas Radio Amateur Club, LVRAC, good group of folks who will happily show you the ropes.
