Anybody have any Intel on any of these
Suggestions for something better
Radtel RT-950 pro,
Baofeng UV25 pro,
baofeng UV-32

Looking to upgrade my eotw stash since in checking my current ones about half are DOA with known good batteries

Ok, how were they stored that killed them??
Get a couple YAESU FT4 or YAESU FT65, they won't go bad and you can use them on ham bands, GMRS, FRS and MURS, granted you need a license to transmit on them legally on the first two, but in the event or EOTW, that won't matter of course.
I can walk you through unlocking them so they will transmit on the GMRS, FRS ,MURS bands, as they come locked so they only transmit on the 2meter and 70cm ham bands.
Its just a code you enter to unlock them, no physical modification needed on these two. Much higher quality radio compared to the Bam Fengs, and less that $100 for either model.

Stored in a foam lined hard case without batteries attached .... We're stored for a bunch of years

Odd, that should not have killed them.
What kind of batteries do they take? If sealed units, not AA or AAA, ODDS ARE THE BATTERIES may show as good but in fact not possess sufficient amperage to power the radios.
What make and model are the dead radios?

I used the same battery to test them all, battery was good. The ones that didn't were a uv5r, a uv5r clone and two bf888's so it's not a big loss
Both those yaesu radios are almost $200 each now on Amazon ... Iol
Cheaper other places

Ft65 $120 at gigi parts and hro worth the extra. Also mtc radio has them for a few bucks more.

I run one of those Buttfong radios, only thing I ever did to help it out was add a better quality antenna. Had a buddy who bought the cord to program his, and he set mine up with all the SNARS and CARLA repeaters into the memory along with the FRS/GRMS channels, whole shebang.

I wholeheartedly agree with the pros that these radios are junk, but mine transmits and receives farther than I ever expected it to for a little handheld. I mainly got it because a bunch of the Jeep crowds up here were switching away from CB’s for the group trail run comms and I wanted to be in the club lol.

I got 2 of these radios off Amazon last October, and +2 more from a different (cheaper) seller in November. Good quality builds and highly flexible radios. Battery life is good, and standard accessories fit.

After having and using for a year, I am very happy with them. They are great for my uses, when one of us goes on a road/business trip and the other stays home, and for local coms in remote areas or caravaning.

There was a bit of a learning curve in setting them up, but customer service was prompt and now I get it and adjustments are simple.

Radioddity and the LATEST Bao Feng 10 Watt radios are Yaesu design, licensed by Yaesu.
I didn't realize the prices on the FT4 had shot up so much, but the FT4 from Ham Radio Outlet is only $109 right now.
The parent company of Yaesu is Vertex Standard, one of two major suppliers of radios to the Goobermunt.
All Yaesu radios are just the Mil Spec Vertex standard model with a different label.
AND Yaesu is the only radio out there with a 3 YEAR warranty, all others run 90 days to on year max.
The factory repair facility for Yeasu, should you need it in or out of warranty, is 4 hours away in Cypress, CA.
Others are either in China or some place a long ways off. Buy multiple disposable radios, or one that you can bet your life on and that will last a lifetime.

Or Gigaparts, same price

The FT65 is also on sale at Ham Radio Outlet, (HRO)

Now, the secret to long range comms with a 5 watt or 10 watt hand held...........I'll tell ya, then I have to kill ya...........
A high quality super rubber duck antenna AND a tiger tail (you make that yourself).
With any radio signal, you need a ground plane for the signal to push off against.
Look at it this way.....put Usane Bolt in a space suit, and set him outside the ISS in free space. I don't care how fast he is on earth, he's not going very far or fast no matter how fast he pumps his legs, no "friction" nothing to push off against.

With a hand held, the chassis is metal and through capacitive coupling. YOUR BODY becomes the ground plane to give the signal from that Super Rubber duck antenna (or the piss poor stock rubber ducky) something to push off against.

Now add the tiger tail. That's a piece of fine wire (insulated or bare, doesn't matter) of 22 to 30 gauge, for a 2 meter / 70 CM dual band, cut to a length of 20-5/8 inches long, then one inch of one end is stripped bare (if it's insulated wire that is) and wrapped in a loop around the base of the SMA connector for the antenna, then the antenna is screwed back on finger tight.

Let the tiger tail hang down the side of the radio.........SHAZAAAM! you just made your antenna system a DIPOLE with a great ground plane, and your distance went up significantly for transmitting.
Remember to always hold the radio with the antenna VERTICAL, don't go turning in on its side horizontally like you see your favorite action hero do in the movies or TV, that severely limits the range when using a repeater, or when operating Simplex.

If the other radio you are trying to communicate with is a repeater, its antenna will be Vertical and thus the signal out of it will be vertically polarized. If you turn your radio horizontal, the signal leaving it when you transmit is horizontally polarized, and thus the intercept point for both your radio and the repeater, or the other hand held or mobile, will be at the very small point where the two different polarized signals CROSS.

VHF and UHF frequencies both work best when vertically polarized, HF, both polarizations are used, depending on if you are looking for DX (distance) comms, or going for a NVIS (Near Vertical Instance Skywave) close in skip.

If you are going to go cheap, then these Bao Fengs from Amazaon are about the best bang for your buck.
You get TWO, three antennas for each, including the super rubber duck, hand mikes, chargers, etc.

Should not be dead, unless you stored them somewhere very humid, or very hot.
Bring them down, buy me lunch, beat me at a round of sporting clays and I will fix them for ya Tom! :devilish::alien::ROFLMAO:

With gas costing as much as it does
Would be cheaper just to buy new ones
Besides you'd cry by me breathing you with a 28 gauge
😹😸😼😹

I shoot a 28 and a .410 for trap, skeet and sporting clays,,,,,,,,,,and I was figuring you'd teach me somethin by whuppin me..........wasn't figuring I'd beat you..........I don't get to shoot much anymore, long drive to Vegas and no one to shoot with when I get there..........

Yeah I am always soooooo busy.

Hell I am blind half the time so easy win for you....
Well, if we go shoot clays, we need to warn the population that on that day, it will be the blind leading the old, crippled and crazy!
Good day to stay home! :devilish::alien::ROFLMAO:
