WTB 22LR Shotshell

Anybody have some 22lr Shotshell they don't have a use for? I need some to take care of a rodent problem.

I shot a mouse with that stuff once from 5 feet away... He had blood dripping from his face and just stood there and looked at me so, I chambered a second round and he took off.... After that I started using CB caps.

Nope. She's in Queen Creek, AZ. Lives on an acre with a horse pasture. The critters are making holes all over. She has an H& R 22lr revolver she wants to use to pi k them off from around 10-20 yards

I don’t have any shotshells avail but at 10-20 yards from a short rifled barrel I am guessing that a .22 shot shell isn’t going to do the trick for ground squirrels. Why not just use some standard or subsonic rounds instead?

Unless the noise is enough, you're gonna need a real bullet, or a real shotgun.

.22LR shotshells won't be effective except at very close distance, as already stated here. At 10-20 yards it's just going to hurt them and possibly make them suffer. Pretty cruel, frankly.

Well it's weird but I have one, just one, my brother in law gave me some 22lr's and it was in with them, but you can have it if you want

Most all .22 "bird shot" shells I've used are very short range, (these are the ones that look like a regular 22 shell case with the end crimped together). When you take one apart, the "shot" is not small round pellets, it's like fine lead granules.

In noise sensitive areas, I'm aware of a couple of choices, a .22 rifle with suppressor and sub-sonic ammo - very effective, very quiet, but expensive and a hassle to acquire the suppressor. Then there's a PCP (Pre Charged Pneumatic) air rifle. I have two Benjamin Marauder PCP's, one in .22 and the other in .25 cal. The advantage is many PCP guns come with built in "moderator" (essentially a non-removable suppressor). Since the gun is not a firearm, there's no $200 tax stamp and attendant hassle and wait as with buying a firearm suppressor.

The Marauder .25 PCP is very effective at taking squirrels - one shot one kill out to 50 yards (probably more, but that's as far as most of my shots). It's almost as good as my CZ 452 American .22lr with suppressor. The CZ is a little quieter using CCI segmented hollow point sub-sonics, but not by much. Both options are back yard quiet. Shot placement in important with either, though a little less so with the 22lr. I have rock walls in the back yard, so the ground squirrels have to be DRT or they can escape into the wall.

Two downsides to the Benjamin Marauder PCP. It's a little heavier than a typical light weight .22lr, and it can be a bit of a workout charging the air reservoir with a hand pump. I have a small high pressure electric compressor, but that's another expense, but then the ammo for the pellet gun is dirt cheap by comparison.

That looks to be more better than the ones I had. I have a small box of those in .38 Special, some use for snake shot. I still think a hollow point bullet is a much better choice for squirrel unless you can sneak up to within a few feet.

Yes old ones were crimped, new ones have plastic case to keep the pellets together.
22 shot shell is #12 shot, for some reason they don't like to use 00 buck.....

Winchester crimped theirs, CCI uses the blue plastic pill. I shot lots of both growing up. I still have a few dozens rounds of CCI in every handgun caliber, just in case.

Okay, checked with my sister and she said it's for cottontails mostly, but also for those ground squirrels. She said the owls have been picking them off lately but there's still too many of them. She is in an area where it's "sound sensitive" and discharge of firearms is prohibited, however, the neighbors don't mind as long as it's quiet and not very often (as they do). Anyhow, she doesn't want to spend the money on an air rifle. She was hoping to somehow use the H&R revolver. Sounds like CB Caps is the way she has to go. Do any of the stores have those in stock these days?

I saw some .22 shot shell at Sportsman's Warehouse in Vegas yesterday. Think it was CCI. They only had that and some .32 for pistol ammo.
