Okay . . . run faster??
If you know a smoker, cut a cigarette into several pieces and poke the fast fuse into one end. There are also ways to make an electric igniter. Or do a search on making fireworks fuse from match heads or household chemicals. None of this is a recommendation, except for having 911 on speed dial!

Oh, and you can make fuse with gunpowder. Try cutting a strip of paper towel, get it damp with water, sprinkle on the gunpowder and then carefully twist the strip of towel and let dry. Test a piece first.

I once used some kite string with lighter fluid. It was attached to a balloon filed with hydrogen. The flame traveled up the string at an amazing pace as I turned and sprinted for the house. There was this God awful loud explosion that rattled all the windows in the neighborhood. About two seconds after that, I'd slammed the front door behind my sorry butt. Did I mention it was loud? Never did get pegged for that one. Always test fuse before use, especially homemade fuse.
What ended up working for my "balloon bombs" was a small plastic bag with a corner cut off, into which I stuck a half cigarette, then put some gunpowder in the bag. The "fuse" was then lit, and the contraption release to explode a thousand or more feet up. You could see a little puff of smoke or flash, and then a couple of seconds later the large boom! Statue of limitations is way expired on my nefarious experiments from when I was young. Amazing I still have all my fingers. Equally amazing is the the Oakland PD saw fit to send me to FBI bomb school . . . kinda like sending a pedophile to work in kindergarten. We blew all kinds so stuff up! Talk about fun! But then I'd get called out on suspicious packages etc. not so much fun.
