Looking for Work - any leads? (ME TOO!)

OK so I saw Sideforce post a "Looking for Work" Thread so I figured I would too.

My experience is in CAD design and CAD/IT management (Computer Aided Design/Information Technologies) this equals about 19 years of experience. The experience lies mainly in Civil Engineering Design but I have also worked in Architectural, and Mechanical Engineering firms.

I have a Technical Degree in Architectural Engineering Design, and a Technical Certificate in Mechanical Engineering design.

Right now I am looking for ANYTHING as I have been out of work now for way too long!! The industry in which I have experience in has all but tanked and I am more than willing to change careers. I am looking for any job that will pay me at least 30K a year ($15 an hour) which is taking a pay cut of more than 50% of my previous pay...

My hope is to find something in Engineering or if I need to change, something in Law Enforcement or Armed Security as I believe I would do well in those fields.

Thanks, ANY leads or help getting a "foot in the door" somewhere would be greatly appreciated!

I feel for ya. I'm an architect and our industry has taken a great hit. I'll keep my eyes open.

+1 dealing with the tank of the construction and development industry.

Maybe the members here can communicate job opportunities with each other? Seems alot of us are unemployed or underemployed as in my case. I am going on nearly 20 years bartending in Las Vegas and am thinking on another line of work. Casino life has been good in the past, but lately it's a strange new world. Anyways please post your wants or needs and maybe we can help each other out. Post live on this thread and if a good opportunity presents itself communicate through PMs. Good luck, maybe some of us can benefit from this thread. Also if a connection isn't made, don't take it personal, it's just business. :cheers2:

In these difficult times, a good idea. :thumbup1:

Don't just say, I need a job, but post in a way that someone can fit you into securing employment. Can you drive a truck? work a computer? cash register? technical skill? You know, try to give someone a idea of your qualifications. I'd like to have my old job back at the Stardust hotel and casino, but most of us know how that went

A couple of my friends have been Bartenders in this town for almost 20 years. They are constantly telling me that things have changed. They can't comp a "regular" a burger while he's playing.

They now have to swipe cards, pour from the gun and are constantly being watched by cameras.

The term "hospitality" has vanished, I worked at a place where they gave away free tee shirts, coupons for drinks when you placed a bet, various perks for gambling, now those things are all but gone. Probably there was some that took advantage of a good thing, but for the most part the initial layout for the company was small compared to the amount of foot traffic it generated. YES, bartending has changed as well as many other aspects of life.

Back on track, please post any jobs available and also post that you need a job and qualifications so that parties can get connected. You never know how things may work out. It would be really cool to get at least one member some work from this post. :cheers2:

I have a friend in the security business looking for off duty law enforcement for the jewelry convention. I am not sure if another qualification works as far as armed security. I can check with her if anyone is interested and already has armed security qualifications.

Thanks I tried to go this route a few weeks ago and was told it would take too long to get the armed guard paperwork back in time for the Jewelry show. I tried to get into a armed guard class soon enough but the city told me that the wait time to get the paperwork and fingerprinting done is backlogged because of the Census checks... The same reason my CCW is stalled at the moment...

good idea

maybe someone could start a work thread? Possible bartering skills thread as well.I just got a few guys work in private security for 30 an hour if anything else opens up i would like to see if there's anyone out there who could fill in.I suggest going to any security company to get the refferal forms and get your guard cards.Once you have them you can jump on the gigs that come from time to time.I believe things are going to get worse in a country run by the bankers for the bankers there is no other outcome.

You might want to talk to others who worked there. They're always hiring because they can't keep people. Very abusive management. It's a turn and burn operation. They burn you out so you'll quit before your benefits kick in and get someone to fall in behind you.

It is worse than you thought! I just sent out my 286th resume in over a year and can't find anything... To contrast that, up to the point when I got laid off last march, I had never had to send out more than 5 Resumes before I had multiple job offers...

Unemployment is just getting worse and worse... So much for that magic "change" we were promised!

Luckily I am scraping by these days, although its still rough going. I never thought I would even want a graveyard shift! I too am sick of submiting job applications, I've placed plenty in some deadend jobs with no results. Job fairs that were a waste of time, low end jobs that never calls you back. Some stuff I am kind of glad they didn't call back. The worm has got to turn soon, this is rediculous! :sosp:

I would be very pleased if this thread secured just one job for someone.
