There is a radio gadget out there that we should all have. It's called the HACKRF ONE.
This thing is an open source gadget that has rapidly evolved over the years. It can do an impressive variety of radio functions, in a very small package.
It will do ordinary radio stuff as well as complex functions, and the user interface has been distilled down into a very simple and easy to use device that is hackable to do even more if you desired.
*disclaimer* It can also be used nefariously, so make sure you know how to use it properly and within your licensed bandspace when utilizing the transmit functions. Don't get jammed up doing something illegal!
