its legal to have a handgun in your vehicle in nevada as long as your not in the city of North Las Vegas.

If you are in Vegas, you may want to verify carrying in your car in North Las Vegas if you don't have a CCW. Seems I read that LEO there is not complying with the state preemption. Seems your gun must be unloaded and locked up in the trunk of your vehicle or in an area unaccessible to the driver and I believe a paasenger.

Under your seat isn't "on your person", so under the seat is fine.

Ok, I just wanna make sure that I understand. So I can't conceal it "near" me. Is the definition of "near" at the discretion of the cop? Does it mean it's easily accessible? If I stick it in a backpack and toss the backpack in the back seat, for example, would that be ok? Sorry fellas but I'm from the state next door where there is only one acceptable way to transport a firearm. In a locked container which is in turn locked in the trunk. No exceptions....anywhere I'll be traveling to Ely on Hwy 50 next month and want to take my M&P40 along. Want to make sure that I fully understand things...just in case.

In Nevada, you can conceal your loaded or unloaded handgun "near" you in your vehicle whether or not you have a CCW. You cannot conceal it "on your person" if you do not have a valid CCW.

About your example of the backpack, yes, you can conceal it in your backpack sitting in the backseat of your vehicle without issue. Where you will get into trouble if caught and you do not have a valid CCW, is if you remove and carry your backpack from your car without removing your gun from it, then the gun becomes concealed on your person.

I believe that the only way to legally carry a handgun concealed in your bag if you do not have a CCW is if it is unloaded and locked in a lockable gun case and ammo is carried in a separate location.
