Folks I recently bought a Stainless Steel media tumbler from (http://www.biggdawgtumblers.com/7501.html) and I love it I can do 13 pounds of 9mm at once very cool. But because I did not want to buy all the dies for all the brass I have I just wanted to be able to deprime it and process it in the tumbler for sale, I needed something I could hand deprime the brass with. I did searches and came up with a bunch of items that looked a bit hokie. I settled on the Harvey Universal Hand deprimer (http://www.harveydeprimer.com/) I honestly did not think it was going to fit the bill but it was much cheaper than 25 different depriming dies. So when I got it I tried it and it works great. SO I forked out the 50.00+ bucks for it.
I know this seems like a sales pitch for this think but it is not. I just wanted to put the info out there. I have deprimed everything from .25 auto to .338 Win Mag and it has worked great. The only issue I ran into with it is 5.56/.223 you have to advance the pin just a tick or the pin pops out of the flash hole and it gets stuck. Now I deperime at the riverside watching my fishing pole and not tied to my bench. Something to look into. [IMG] [/IMG]

I'm sure I will be. Bought the extra pins and such. May have to buy a few more as I have 4 sets of hands around here.
Wish I would have known about your tumbler. I bought the one from stainlesstumblingmedia.com. Can't complain, but I think I finally figgered out a way to separate the stainless pins from the dirty water... I hate when the SIMPLEST ideas escape me, really....

I made a separator that works great 10 or 12 shakes and done. My only issue has been with a batch of .38 they all have a pinkish tint to them. I have run them 3 times not and the same thing every time. all my other brass comes out great.
I was on the verge of buying a model B tumbler when I found the Bigdawg tumbler and I am so glad I did. The Model B could only do a total of 15 pounds of weight but my 8" drum I have done 52+ pounds of total weight 13 pounds of brass not just 2 pounds like in the Model B. I really like it. I am uploading all my photos on photobucket right now. I will attach a photo of my sifter as soon as they all load up.

The pink tint on your brass is an indication of metal deterioration.

Thank you Ray. I had seen it in my sonic cleaner if I left the brass in to long but never on this scale. And it is only from 2 on the case manufactures. It has only happened on .38 so it must be the way that brass is made. Any thoughts?
Just crappy brass?

I found this on AR15.con
First, the reason you are getting pink brass is not caused directly by Lemishine. Brass will rust when exposed to moisture and salt. However, for the sake of simplicity (since you are not a chemist), there are two different types of brass rust. The common type is black in color and this is dissolved by Lemishine. The other type of brass rust is red in color, Lemishine will not dissolve this and this is the reason why when a piece of brass that has both types of rust, it starts out looking black since the black rust basically covers everything. When you remove the black rust, this will reveal the red rust if it exists. This is the reason why it “looks” like Lemishine cause the red coloration when it actually only reveals it. This is also the reason why only some but not all brass has the red color after Lemishine – this is always the brass that looks the worst before cleaning. Look at the image posted by dryflash3, I can bet you anything that one red casing was a really old one he picked up. I think you can use too much Lemishine, but not because it causes the brass to turn pink but because it is a waste of Lemishine. If Lemishine causes the red color, it will discolor ALL the brass and not the occasional brass- it obviousely does not. You can do some experiment yourself by cleaning the slightly dirty brass separately from the really tarnish stuff – you will find that the really tarnish stuff are always the ones that turns red. In my hands, the red rust is hard to remove and takes a lot more tumbling to clean.

Firestone Ammo in Mound House throws away any pink tinted brass. I have never had a discoloration problem using lemishine.
