Default Broken Marlin Firing Pin

So I was dry firing my Marlin 1894 today and the firing pin smashed in half and fell out the back of the gun

So I ordered a new one from Midway for $8. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/849...ll-models-blue

Is it difficult to change these?

Also this is the first time I've ever broken something dry firing a gun. Maybe I need some snap caps?

OK. Here's how to replace the Rear Firing Pin:

Remove the lever pivot screw.

Once it's out, you can pull the lever down enough to let the bolt slide out of the back.

This is a top view of the bolt. The left pin holds the rear firing pin in place, and the right pin holds the front firing pin in place.

Glad I bought this bench block last year. Good advice that came from Nycogunnsmith's pins and punches thread. It has a groove in the middle so that the bolt can sit nice and flat. There's also a hole right where the pin needs to protrude down. The pin should be punched out from the bottom out the top.

You don't have to completely remove the pin. It just needs to be most of the way out.

Then slide the new rear firing pin into the bolt, and put everything back in reverse order.

I have to wait till my new firing pin comes before I can complete that.

I got the gun back together and it shoots awesome. One of my favorite guns. It's a well used gun, so the action is super smooth.

A little slow motion video from Saturday morning:

Nice work, and great pictures of the take down, very clear and will undoubtedly be helpful to others.

Also, nice video, great editing timing the gun's firing with the guy off camera smacking a piece of steel with a hammer to simulate you hitting the target!

Sorry, Geo MADE me say that! Or was it Tophog I was just channeling??

Toldja that bench block would come in handy sooner or later. Also makes a great paperweight on the desk. Never fails to get people's attention.

Get's mine every time the wife picks it up and bounces it off my thick skull to get my attention..........

The steel was about 1,000 yards away. Well maybe closer to 2,000. I was really on that day.

Judging by the time you hear the bang to clink it seems the steel is exactly 5.2 yards away, but hey those full size man steel targets are hard to hit.

Particularly if they kind of blend in with the side of the steel building they are mounted on!

Nonsense. It was a barn. Lengthwise.
