Default Help installing an AR 15 gas block

I am building my first ar 15 and got a complete upper for really cheap. However, it comes with a railed gas block which means I would have to buy a front sight. I'm on a budget, and I found a standard gas block/front sight for a really low price. I just have no idea how to change out gas blocks. I know pins are involved, and I have punches, but I don't know if I need any special tools or if it is difficult to align the gas port. I also was wondering if it is possible to change gas blocks without taking off the handguard. Thanks.

Is the upper you bought drilled for pins for a mil spec front sight base? If its not, thats going to be your first problem. Its still doable, but by the time you pay someone to drill your bbl you'd be into cheaper buying a Magpul MBUIS front sight

And to answer your other question, if your gas block is in front of your hand guards you can remove it without removing the handguards, yes. You'll prob just have to remove your flash suppresor to slide it off.

I don't know if it's drilled. I bought the upper from here http://www.jsesurplus.com/custom16hb...tandard-2.aspx

if you got a standard fsb you would need the barrel drilled for taper pins.. options would be a front flip up gas block or like guido said a magpul buis

look into yhm, mi, pri front flip up gas blocks or my personal fav the ARMS #41

Okay. Looks like I'm just going to buy some iron sights. I don't want my project getting too expensive.

Gudio is correct, if you have to have it drilled for taper pins it will be cheaper to just buy the Iron sight
