Default Additional firearms training for my son

he recently took the day class to get his CCW - should have it in a few months

my problem:

im not totally satisfied with the training he received - i get it, it's just a half day class and i never expected him to get everything out of the class i figure he needs to know, both for his own safety and legally

not blaming the class, the instructor was good, but, just not enough for my son to get the big picture as a responsible gun owner

i'd like him to get in a few more training classes, stuff relating to situational awareness, gun carry and the responsibilities that come with it - maybe some training on avoiding situations, de-escalating possible threats, plus, some actual time using the firearm in simulated situations

we live off the 95 and Ann Rd, looking for some recommendations on places that offer the additional kind of training for someone who is going to be carrying a firearm - my son is very smart, but, like many young people, has never had the one on one type of training to give him better views about being a responsible CCW holder

i'd appreciate any offer of places out there, along with the services they offer, website links, costs, materials needed to sign up

i think this could benefit him greatly - my attitude has always been to avoid at all cost any possible conflicts, whatever it may take to avoid having to defend my life - of course, i have years and years of news stories and incidents that i can relate to in determining how to think in tough situations - my son doesn't have that, only what i've taught him

sometimes it's better to hear it from someone else in the field

thanks in advance for any recommendations any of you can offer

- Richard

They have a pretty good course selection. I plan on trying a couple out in the near future.

You’re going to find that no single class will encompass everything you need. Look for a few different classes from a few different instructors tailored to his needs.

There is a group called Revers Riders who offer basic pistol, basic rifle and Carbine classes at the Clark County Shooting Complex.

I'll second the Front Sight suggestion. Have him attend the 4 day defensive handgun course. Perhaps take it together for some quality father-son time.

I cannot +1 enough for chuck. I have taken multiple classes with him. He is The consummate professional. With every class I learn something and tighten up my shooting. He also adjusts on the fly for the experience and needs of the students in his classes.

Get three or four persons together and he will run a private class for you. If you have a desert sportsman’s membership he can be your “guest” so the shooting can be convenient.

The OP sounds like he wants his son to get some personal training.

Front Sight is more like a puppy mill. Get 'em in and get 'em out!

The 4 day is a large cluster of newbies, returnees, LEO, etc. Not separated into groups by common knowledge or training.

And some classes are like like going through boot camp. (I speak from experience.)

Chuck has the patience, attitude and knowledge to address any issues. And his classes can be tailored for size.

He teaches advanced courses, low light, etc. Plus things like survival and tactical first aid.

Front sight 4 day wont talk so much about laws, but it will get you comfortable about handling a firearm. I would do that in addition to other training.
I am sure you can get a diamond membership for $1-200 so still a good deal.

I will be teaming up with Deus Ex Machina and we will be offering many training options in 2018. We have a meeting tomorrow to discuss the details.

See this thread here for more details. http://www.nevadashooters.com/showthread.php?t=81408
