Because they know cops have rules of engagement and aren't likely to shoot a dude running away. On the other hand, some random dude with a gun could be CraAAAAazeee and shoot them for the slightest provocation.

Why they both hit the deck, I do not know.
So if you pulled your weapon, but did not point it at them and did not point it at the ground, where were you pointing it? Sounds to me like an unsafe direction as anywhere else would be unsafe, no?

Just playing devil's advocate, pretty much what you asked for in your OP.

This is all I could find of the police report. Does the OP have anything further like a full police report?
BTW, unless I feared for my life, I would holster, or ditch my weapon after calling 911. Good way to get yourself shot more then once.

May 14, 9:35 a.m.

Officers received a report that someone had been stabbed. The call was disconnected, and upon investigation officers found both the suspect and the victim. An ambulance arrived for the victim, who was taken to Boulder City Hospital.

========================================

I like this call better. Cops chasing mother duck and brood.
May 12, 3:33 p.m.

Someone reported that there was a mother duck and seven ducklings in the driveway and didn’t know what to do with them. Upon arrival, the officer was not able to catch them and called animal control.

Crazy stuff happens so I don't doubt it. I can say I'd at least consider drawing with two bloody people, one with a knife, within shouting distance from me. I probably wouldn't yell at them if they were just passing by though.

Touchy Touchy, I believe you're the one that put your business out there for others to examine, without giving them the full report, correct? what'd you expect?

If your first consern was your wife, shouldn't you have kept out of it, instead of running down the driveway putting yourself between them? Not saying I wouldn't have pulled mine. Probably would have, but also probably would have pointed it at the guy with the knife and ordered him to drop it. Based on you're description, I think I would have expected one or both to be High on something, so I may not have gotten involved more than calling the police. But who's to say in the heat of the moment?

OP if this happened to me, I wouldn't post it here for 2 reasons:
1. These Monday morning quartbacks are like a bunch of whiney Californians, and
2. You don't want to post details in public in case some anti-gun DA wants to make an example of you for brandishing or worse. You may be legally not guilty, but it'll cost you legal fees regardless.
