Default Rabbit Hunting

Is there anywhere within reasonable driving distance of Vegas that has a decent number of bunnies to hunt. My wife is getting into hunting and I thought this would be a good way for her to get out and do some hunting without having to put in for a tag. She asked me the other day when we were at Sportsman's Warehouse and she saw on the board several pictures of women and young girls who had shot several Rabbits.

Everywhere I have been coyote hunting around the valley has been slim pickins when it comes to bunnies. I have seen very few to be honest. Normally we do Thanksgiving up North in UT and go out on Black Friday but this year we didn't make it and the wife was a bit discouraged about not being able to go out.

We are looking to go hunting around the Christmas break so it would be great if someone could point us in the right direction.

Look at the country South of Nelson, North of Searchlight. Follow any of the powerline roads until close to the Mts.
GrandDads? road East to the powerline rd, powerline road East to the bunnies.
Some really pretty Red Rock area that she will dig, out there. Four wheel drive, though. Jacks aplenty, bunnies too. Might get into some quail.
You are a lucky man.

Thank you for the info. And yes I consider myself a lucky man.

Look at a topo map for springs and you will usually find birds and bunnies.

Rabbits are everywhere but you need to hunt them at night with a spotlight. Go out on the Jean Lake Bed and drive on the edge around it. The long range spot out there is loaded with them too. The hubcap shooting area is also rabbit filled year round if you start taking the dirt roads off to the side. I can easily kill 20-30 a night.

when you say night, do you mean dusk/dawn, or middle of the night pitch black?

You actually want a loud muffler. It stirs them out of hiding and rabbits are very dumb animals.

if you ever spot and stalk in the day make sure you stop every now and then. someone told me once about it. they said they tuck in deep and hide and as long as the predator is moving it doesn't see him the moment they stop it means the predator see it and they bolt.

I do second the spotlight though and find springs. was out on lane springs road and there was a guzzler with about a ton of rabbit turds
