Default Do It Yourself Springs

Was going to get Geo to film me making springs, which is an essential skill for any gunsmith, then stumbled across this video, saves time!
And the narrator is every bit as much of a wise@$$ as Geo and I are, so you guys should feel right at home.

Will have to write up a bit about the various types of springs and go into what metals to use, tempering, etc. but this will get all ya'alls started.

They're available in all shapes and sizes, except the one you need.
Thanks!

In the immortal parlance of Curly Howard.... " Truer woids wuz never spoke!".

Which is why along with learning how to use a hacksaw and a file, making springs is one of the foundation skills of being a real gunsmith, and not just an armorer, or parts plugger, or hack.

Because if the part doesn't exist, you better be able to make if it you want to stay in business, and you can't always do it with power tools, sometimes the parts (often times I should say) the parts are too small, which is where the hacksaw and file comes in.

You can make springs without the lathe, and I will probably have to get Geo and his handy video camera over here to demonstrate that method, it's not any more complex than the one "This Old Tony" just showed you, just a little slower is all.

Waitaminute... I thought the mark of a true gunsmith was having an account at Brownell's!

Geez, I learn something new every day!

I'm not sure I'm so grateful anymore. I'm "wasting" my whole evening watching This Old Tony's videos...

This was great timing back when I originally found it. Needed an oddball spring for an old Honda ATV rope pull starter which was long since out of production. This video gave me the info to make my spring which worked out perfectly. Thanks for the post.
