Uly,
I always wanted to fish the East Cape or Loreto. Dorado are sure acrobatic. We lost a bunch due to their flips in the air. I am sure billfish are the same.

Yep, everytime you hooked a marlin or sailfin it would jump clear out of the water so you could tell right away.

I did most of my fishing from a little town called Mulege, its about 1hr north of Loreto. Not much to the town back then but there was a river that emptied out into the gulf, makeshift docks along the banks where the boats were moored, and a lighthouse.

Default Some Pics

I only got a few. Keep in mind speed is important on these trips. You fish hard when the school is biting and don't have time for pics. They throw the fish in a refrigerated hold after each stop.

Approx 18lb yellowtail right after it hit the deck.

My bluefin approx 15lbs

A nice dorado a fellow angler caught.

Our sacks getting stuffed with fish during a good stop on a kelp patty.

What did the day trip run you? And is it one of those bring your own gear trips?

My trip was a day and 1/2. Boarded the boat Thursday night, slept in bunks overnight, and started fishing Friday morning about 9am about 100 miles south of the border. We fished until dark and got back in Saturday about 9am. We went down Baja up to 120 miles. Ticket price $300. Bring your own gear or rent it at the dock. I have custom built rods by a friend and pricy reels. Good gear makes a difference. I used my new Shimano Trinidad 20A I got for my Bday last year on my bluefin. It's a $500 reel. The tackle was just hooks and line. I estimate I brought home about $800 in fish. Fresh tuna was $24 a pound a whole foods today. I have my own gear because I do this annually and used to fish almost every weekend in CA.

Cool,
just talked to a guy who did a 3 day trip and their yellowtail went up to 32lbs. Same mix of fish I got on the Condor and I caught as many on the 1.5 day though I fish hard and don't spend much time in the bunks or cabin. Montery Bay gets some close in chickens. That would be fun! They missed So Cal this year. I guess the water was too warm for them. Go get em!
