Default M1A guys..

I bought this one here from Dolomite, a Springfield Scout/Squad.
Removed the scout rail, replaced the hand guard and after much fitting, managed to get a stripper clip mount on it.
A 3moa FastFire 2 in a Burris protective pic mount fit into the most rearward slot after minor modding of said mount.
Has anyone done this kind of set-up? If so, did it work out well? With so much fishing and Spring pool-fool work on my agenda, I probably won't get to shoot it until Memorial Day Weekend.
Could brass smack the lens of the sight and enough elevation/downward adjustment?

I don't want to be debbie downer, the M1A sports some very good battle sights. looking at your pics have you lost the ability to use the rear sight now ? And my apology I'm kinda old school with the platform.

Gorgeous rifle though

Yeah, the rear is buried. I intend to sight in the irons, then reinstall the red dot.
The dot mount will come off with a coin and the rail doesn't interfere with the peep at it's lowest.
Irons aren't the best with my aging peepers anyway. I should really get some specs besides my readers.

I'm with you on the aging eyes, I'm holding out as long as I can . I've never tried mounting a red dot on an M1A. Scope yes. I'd think the ideal way to go would be with a Brookfield or Sadlack mount, and attach the fastfire to that if it can be mounted to a rail type setup.

It totally looks shootable the way you have it though.

I'm also ol school with the platform. Back in '67 at Ft. Jackson we qualified with the M-14 (M1A). With the iron sights we were able to hit torso size targets out to 300 yards.

Just piping in that this makes me miss the M1A I sold to a buddy on here. I don't even know if he still has it!

Hope to shoot a Garand this weekend to help get the M1A bug out of my system!!

I think so, too. I have a scoped AR10 and wanted to keep this one more for souped-up, semi 30/30 duty.
Itching to take it out. I hate having a gun unsighted and right now I have three.

looks like a handy little setup. I cant even tell you the last time I shot my M1A, it just sits. I'd love a SOCOM 16 or Scout Squad.

I didn't know I wanted one until I saw it in a Trading Post ad. Dang TP is dangerous!
I might go all "Korean War" on a mule deer doe with this one, if I draw the tag.
