Default EMP/electronic keypad failure proof safe

Just before my deer hunt, my safe's keypad malfunctioned.
Although entering the proper code, it indicated an improper code was entered and would immediately lock me out from trying again. The offending piece was a La Gard, pretty standard on a decent gun safe. Research indicated the worst.
Calling around, I got estimates of $400-$500 to drill the safe only, then repair it and then install a new lockset. A bummer, not to mention that nobody could make it in time to get my AR10 out in time for my hunt. I was glad that it was already out.
Luckily, it decided to work once and I got the box open.
Googling, I found a Safe Logic Xtreme EMP proof lock, $350.00. Keypad and a combination dial. All metal, compared to the plastic one. Obviously, much better quality. Easy install. Backlit for both functions.
It's a nightmare getting locked out, not to mention the cost.

My big safe came with a backup key. Big honking long thing from the 14th century. Works great in a pinch.

I won't buy a safe without one.

Had a $500 Costco safe (made by Cannon).

After a few years the electronic lock became very glitchy, would randomly lock me out, and have to sit for a couple of hours before it would work.

Got rid of it and got a Sturdy Safe, with a manual Sargent & Greenleaf dial lock. I personally will never own another electronic lock safe. (BTW if you are in the market for a safe, can't recommend Sturdy highly enough. REAL security compared to the cabinets dressed up to look like safes that are 90% of the gun safe market.

I have a 200 lb gun cabinet I bought from Service Merchandise 25 years ago that also has a S&G mechanical dial lock on it. Open it and close it at least once a week to get stuff, and it still works perfectly, has never even needed any maintenance.

Well. With this, it's the best of both. Ease and convenience of electric, and reliability of combo. Plus, in the event of malfunction of either, a $99.00 face fixes almost all issues. No locksmith needed. No key outside of the safe. Easy to reset codes and combos.
Super-cool, IMHO.
They aren't paying me much, so thats the extent I'm willing to hard sell it.

I bought a couple when they were brand new but never got around to installing.
Another NS member installed one when I bought mine and had nothing but trouble, so be warned.

Prices have sure gone up...

Yeah, I know.
I tried to get one of yours when my troubles started, remember.
Mine went in easy, and has had no sign of trouble. The reviews are good.
Warranteed. Maybe he had a lemon.
Where did you get them so cheap? I searched all over and prices were from $329-$499.

...or you can just buy a safe that uses keys.

Speaking of safes reminded me of this..
No issues so far. It does eat batteries vs the LaGard keypad that failed back in Oct.
The solenoid/motor? seems to fire very aggressively and for a longer duration that the previous set-up. A good thing maybe, but uses more juice?
9volt instead of two AAs. I get into it probably 20 times a day due to business junk inside.
