Default What yall using for coyotes

I've got a 1x9 20" build with a new scope I need to sight in. I was looking at the VMAX stuff but its damn near $1 a round. I'm interested in lead-tipped/soft point ~55gr 223 ammo. I want to sight in with what I'm going to shoot, what do you guys prefer?

If you reload, I use the Hornady 55 gr SP bullets for varmints. I've dropped plenty with those bulllets and are about $96/1K at Midway.

I am hoping I can load a Sierra 65gr SBT soft point for just such a thing. In my mind it just seems like it would be just the thing. Armadillo killer. LOL

I know it is an old post. Hornaday makes the 55 gr. SP in 50 round boxes. Watch for a sale and you can order them from cabelas or graphs for about 25 a box. Cabelas sometimes has free shipping or 5 dollars too. It shoots moa in my gun.

I recommend staying away from the vmax. If you hit bone they can splash. Also stick with 55 gr or heavier. If you want to shoot plastic tipped try NBT, they are a little more stout than a vmax.

You could also try 55 gr sp remington. They sell it at walmart i think.

Of course, I do not see the price of ammo for coyote as being very important. A box of 20 should be 15 to 20 dogs down. That is worth 20 bucks to me!

1-9 twist will stabilize heavier bullets, and in two Remington 700s and one off the shelf AR, Iíve found the Hornady match 75gr BTHP to shoot much smaller groups than the 55gr VMAX, it hits hard and doesnít usually over-penetrate. Iíve shot several broadside with no exit, but just last month I shot one in the lower throat straight on, and it went out the back through the spine.

Goose loads and a baby duckdog to lure them in.

Sight in with the cheapest 55gr you can find (or whatever grain you choose). When you're as dialed as you feel you can get, run a few groups of the ammo you truly want to use to tighten it up.
