My Mini is awesome. Has killed more deer than most guys have killed.

I'm glad you guys have Mini-14s that shoot well enough for you. I have shot eight of them, owned by folks who wouldn't spend the extra money to buy an AR-15..

Accuracy was 3-4 MOA at best, with a couple being 6MOA guns. When asked, Ruger customer service told at least two owners that that level of 'accuracy' was "within spec".

I heard that they now make barrels in-hpuse instead of buying them for $8 from Wilson (not Wilson Combat).2

What's funny is these days Mini's are twice the price of ARs. Sks's and minis were great during the ban days of old in CA, but once I left that state I sold them.

My first AR (late 1970's) cost $429.95. There were no other manufacturers except Armalite (AR-180), but those were very scarce.

There are scores of manufacturers now, and a new AR-15 costs about...$399.

Now that you mention it, I have shot a couple of mini's whose accuracy was pretty lame. My Pop's, not a Ranch Rifle, was one. All the RR's (3 or so) that I have fired were OK. Mine is great. I still have and use it along with my ARs.

I'm not into the AR platform but respect the folks that are. I'm more of a lever/bolt action kind of guy. Heck, I still use a flip phone. The Mini's satisfied my desire to try semi auto rifles. I can hit the broad side of a barn with them so all is well (old age vision). What's important is what the individual shooter likes and is comfortable/proficient with.
