long live the granola burner.
Remember back in 2011 we had new cars?? Now we have two 2011s at my house. My wife keeps getting her Odyssey dinged and dented and I don't even have 55k on my truck - so I think we might be on the 10 year replacement plan. We are already at 6!!

I was wondering when you were going to catch my granola burner comment!!

Yes, I live in Tahoe and they're about the most common car around. Up here, you really need the AWD/4WD capability.

I recall Consumer Reports did testing decades ago. Their tests show tires, more than drive train, have the biggest impact on winter performance. That's why I always get real snow tires (not M + S) for winter. Especially true last winter with epic snowfall.

If you don't have traction you don't have 4, 3, 2 or 1 wheel drive.
Loved my Audi A4 quattro with snow tires in the snow (hated it in the dry). But a guy I worked with had a Mercedes G wagen with Yoko Geolanders and it "sucked" in the snow and that beast can go anywhere. Never really understood that.

I bought a Forester for my wife and kids. With the Eyesight option and other safety features I feel they are safe. The AWD is incredible for the purpose of the car. The car is on rails in the rain. Snow and ice are no problem at Mt Charlseton. It's not a Jeep or a Raptor but the Subaru AWD is very capable.

PS - for the OP, how was the road from Peach Springs? That's on my trip list for this winter. Did you need 4WD or is it just a dirt road?

Also how much was the access fee? Thanks.

The road was being grated when we went through. 4wd is not needed. Just ground clearance. The 100 or so yards to the beach you might need 4wd depending if creek is flowing.
The fee comes out to about 25.00 a person for adults. If your taking the kids a side trip to Grand Canyon caverns is a great side trip.
Also lots of RTE 66 photo opportunities in Seligman, Az
