well I'm thinking im going to hold off until thanksgiving hoping for some deals. I plan on purchasing a griffin optimus 7.62 and a YHM stinger .22. They both have gotten great reviews over the interwebs and the optmus will allow me to shoot my 308 bolt rifle and my ppq. Silencershop has been very helpful, I used one of their kiosks at Ventura yesterday. I was a very simple process and only took 15 minutes.

It was my first time in Ventura. I usually go to New Frontier. The staff seemed nice. I was origionally having the supressors go to new frontier. I figgure they will be in business for quite some time.... Now im thinking to have them transferred to ventura. Its right around the corner from me. I'm just a bit worried as i am not real framillar with them and after hearing about gun garage closing down...

I suggest a rifle can, either .233 or .308 depending on a person’s need, and going as lightweight as practical. The difference is amazing, especially on a bolt gun. Imagine your favorite centerfire rifle, and instead of a concussive, loud blast it sounds like a 10/22. An AR-15 will be louder, but it’s still a tremendous difference. And there is no maintenance needed on centerfire rifle cans. I also don’t think pistol cans are very useful. They can be dumb-quiet, with subsonic ammo, but not very practical (can’t holster it, needs higher sights, dirty).
If they were priced commensurate with their true value, getting one didn't include an anal exam and the other factors that I mentioned, I think that I would still pass.
I am on my buddy's trust, and I almost ordered one for my .22s and one for my .308s when he ordered his. I'm glad I didn't, though. Honestly, the reduction in noise wasn't all that cool, in my dorky opinion. They are cool, just not enough. I suppose that I'm an oddity. I enjoy the noise and blast, even with the big guns.

Plus, I always try to keep my guns as light as possible. Mine are CCW and hunting guns, exclusively. Also, some "freedom" guns...

To each his own. My friend really likes them, so.....I'm all for the easing of restriction and think everyone who wants them should get them, of course.

Default planning on my first supressor

Thanks for supporting everybody else’s rights! I too look for the lightest weight possible because I hunt, so I totally get that. Usually the trade off I make is by shortening the barrel- my light weight 6.5 Grendel now sports a 16.5” threaded barrel, and I use the Omega with direct thread attachment and a titanium 6.5 endcap. I’m either switching to the Trash Panda or ordering a Ti thread attachment to save another 2 oz or so. Even my not-super-light Bergara 6.5CM has a 16.5” barrel. I’m not as worried about 150fps as I am about weight and shorter length so that adding the can doesn’t make it drag on the dirt.

And for those asking “Why 16.5”?” The answer is so that if I need to re-crown it or change it in some way, I still have some room for the ‘smith to with.

So next question... When I purchase the supressors, I need to notify the police. I understand I send them a copy of my application to ATF, do I also have to send them copies of my fingerprints and photo? or just the application.

If you're doing it through SilencerShop, they will take care of the notification for you.

T Bone, I think you have to send LVMPD or HPD a copy of the form 4, because Silencer shop is in Texas I don't believe they will send the notification. If you live in Henderson the form 4 has to go to HPD, live in Vegas it goes to LVMPD. I have a few suppressors and I really enjoy shooting them. I have a SDN6 from Advanced Armament for my 5.56/223,308 and 300 BLK.

They absolutely will send it, as I've seen the CLEO address on my Form 4s filed through SilencerShop..
