How long of a climb was it?

This website has the BEST info for just about any hike worth doing in the area.

Excellent info on hiking to the peak of Mt. Charleston also (a bit early for that though, as I'm sure it's still covered by snow).

I often go backpacking solo in cougar county, and if you know what to do, there is no reason, IMO, to fear the cats.

As long as you're not running away (or on a bicycle riding past or something like that) there is no reason to fear the cougars. Simply don't run away or anything like that. But also don't stay still. Move away SLOWLY.

I have yet to read a single story about a WILD cougar attack where the person attacked was not either running away or riding a bicycle past. You would be a lot safer running toward the mountain lion than away. The best thing you can do is move away SLOWLY.

See here for more info.

It can't hurt to carry a Glock 20 or 29 either.

A photographer friend of mine, Billy Johnson (Now a pro poker player Billy "Big Show" Johnson) climbed it 1998.

Took him 6+ hours, he carried a full medium format camera kit and tripod for night shots.

Stuff he shot was amazing.

Mountains are why helicopters were invented.

I climbed about 1/2 way up the front as a kid in the 70's, I have also walked up the back side on the switch back road they use to service the antenna on top if its even still there, how they drove those big Oshkosh trucks up there is beyond me.
