Default dumb question who invented staggered column magazines?

i cant find it anywhere on the net. does anyone know?

Not 100% positive, but John Moses Browning comes to mind, with the Browning Hi Power pistol, but there was probably someone before him, just can't think of anyone else at the moment.

What about rifles. Enfield had 10 rd detachable staggered magazines

Wikipedia magazine and came up with james paris lee designed box mag and 1888 lee-metford rifle had 10 round detachable box (staggered)

I guess I should have asked if you meant just a staggered magazine, the Lee would qualify there, or a Double Column (AKA Double Stack) (which is also considered a staggered magazine) but which feeds from a single point.

The staggered mags like in the Lee, Enfields, Mausers, etc. feed one left, one right, etc.

The Double Column mags as used in the High Power and Para Ordnance and Glock, etc. feed from a single point, the cartridge is presented straight on to the chamber instead of slightly off the center axis.
