I sewed shrimp into the hem of some curtains when I moved out an an apartment and the landlord reused to give me my deposit back.

I "redirected" an attackers aggression by using his long hair....easy to grab, and once I had the momentum and position....his intentions were neutralized. Only time I ever felt I was fighting for my life....

I have always been a fan of W. E. Fairbairn. For him there was really so such thing as a dirty trick.

my martial arts teacher told me once 'don't worry about trying to take your opponent's knife away during a fight. control the arm, beat him unconscious, then take it away'. after seeing more botched cavaliers and messed up disarm attempts, i heartily agree. stick with the basics, leave the chuck norris moves for the movies.

I have found that if you lock his knife hand up, break either the elbow or shoulder, they will generally let it go. Then soften him up a bit more for good measure. Best part is watching em scream when they are put in handcuffs. |

I've found, in my interactions with other people that most human beings expect anger, resistance and violence to be a slow building process. In general they plan for and react best to this.
Think about how a fist-fight normally breaks out. Two meat-heads start an altercation with some choice words, they close a physical distance gap. This is usually followed by one person pushing another and it usually closes by the two throwing right hooks and proceeding to beat the crap out of each other. If you've ever been in a serious verbal altercation you can usually see someone's facial expression subtly change as they progress from a calm demeanor to aggressive. This can, on occasion, be subverted to one's advantage. Being polite, calm and seemingly submissive at one moment and then "exploding" at the next with overwhelming aggression and violence can really throw people off the mark. It makes you an unknown quantity to someone who likely thought they knew what they were getting into to begin with. It's not really a "dirty trick" but if you can control your emotions and have a good poker face it's one that can work surprisingly well. |
