Combat Focus Shooting Course - in Pahrump Aug 5th & 6th

This COMPED course is for gun shop / gun range owners & employees, and firearm instructors in the Southern Nevada Area.

This course is being put on by Acme Consulting Group, Down Range Firearms Training, Ammo Supply Warehouse & 10X Defense, and will be held at the Lone Wolf Shooting Range in Pahrump, NV on August 5th, or 6th. The class is a 1 day event, and the same course curriculum will be taught on both days.

THIS WILL BE THE FOCUS OF THE TRAINING EVENT:

Combat Focus® Shooting is an Intuitive shooting program designed to make the student more Efficient in the context of a Dynamical Critical Incident where there is an identifiable lethal threat.

We define Intuitive as: Works well with what the body does naturally. We know from empirical evidence (dash cam videos, surveillance videos, etc) the body reacts & does certain things under critical/threatening situations.

Efficient is defined as: Using the least amount of time, effort & energy to complete said task by minimizing options.

Dynamic Critical Incident is defined as:

Surprising, you didn't know it was going to happen

Chaotic, you don't know what is going to happen next

Threatening there is a lethal threat that requires the use of a firearm

Consistency is very important in CFS. We define consistency as doing things in the same place & same way as much as possible. We teach a high compressed ready position. The high compressed ready is also the same place we teach students to reload the firearm, it happens to be the same place the gun passes through on a presentation from the holster.

Combat Focus Shooting is based on Counter Ambush Methodology. What is the worst fight? The one you didn't see coming. So if you train for the worst the exceptions to your training should be easy. If you see the fight coming the techniques you learn in CFS still work because they are based on how the body naturally reacts to danger.

Principles and Concepts:

Being a student first and foremost what caught my attention with CFS was the Balance of Speed & Precision concept (BOS&P).

ALL shooting is a BOS&P, in the context of self defense with a firearm the speed component is getting Combat Accurate hits as fast as you can & using as much precision as needed to get those hits.

The target is always going to dictate the need for precision.

Your application of skill is going to determine if you gets the hits you need to get. *unless you're shooting out of control*

Your belief or confidence in your ability is going to determine how fast you shoot.

The more frequently and realistically you train, the more accurate your confidence in your ability will be.


With a CFS course not having an outline and the course being student based below would be a few a concepts that are covered in a CFS course.

Combat Accuracy is ANY shot that significantly affects the targets ability to present a lethal threat.

Extend Touch Press drill….Helps students to develop Intuitive Shooting Fundamentals quickly

Up! Drill (Single/ Multiple Shots)…Helps to develop recoil management skills and reveals the advantages of Kinesthetic Sight Alignment

Lateral movement on extension from the high compressed ready. The benefit of Combat Efficiency…Any ACTION that significantly affects the target’s ability to present a lethal threat.

Critical Incident Reloads…The most Efficient way to get the gun back into battery during a gunfight and still maintain “Active” awareness of the environment.

Four Factors that affect the BOS&P…critical to understanding the various levels of using deviation control to maximize Combat Accuracy.

Discuss the Body's Natural Reactions to a Dynamic Critical Incident. [Neuroscience, Physiology, Anatomy, Psychology]

Multiple target engagement concept….designed to give you maximum advantage in engaging multiple threats in a dynamic environment

Non-diagnostic linear malfunction drill…a powerful drill to develop intuitive weapons manipulation skill in less than desirable circumstances.

yeah...lol. I'd much rather be learning synchronized swimming in the town pool...but the way things are going across the country....we better get this stuff engrained before it's too late....I'm sure you know which way the wind in blowin.....

but yeah....it's going to get warm.

Didn't see anything in the original post, or the previous thread, about:

Ammo qty.

Accessories, i.e. preferred holster type, ball cap, speed loaders or spare mags, any special clothing, etc.

Are snacks and beverages available to purchase, or is it 'bring your own'! (I haven't been to Lone Wolf for a couple years. Probably the same as the last time I saw it.)

GREAT DAY WITH 10X! Many thanks to ASW for getting this arranged!

I don't know how Sunday went, but today was very instructive and informative. A few rough spots, but considering some of the instructors only first met on Saturday, they melded very well.

I learned more in one day than I did in 4 days at Front Sight. Not to say that the FS course isn't a good foundation, specially for a beginner, but the smaller classes and better one-on-one assistance without the cookie-cutter approach was very helpful. And they are open to constructive criticism and entertaining new approaches to the class presentation.

I highly recommend trying to get these people back for more classes.
