I'm a 4wheeler, and often times do the potato ridge run between Red Rock and Pahrump.
Are we currently allowed to CC in Red Rock National Conservation Area? I know national park laws, but what about National "Conservation Areas." There's just something about me that doesnt like being out in the woods without protection.

He's correct. I got pulled over in Red Rock, produced my permit, said I had a weapon, and that was it. Ranger didn't even care to see the weapon.

Cool. Not that I plan to get pulled over, but it's good to know.
Let the (legal) wheelin' begin!

I specifically asked a ranger the question about ten years ago. Even back then he said if you have a CCW permit it was not an issue.

Bureau of Land Management (Red Rock) tends to be more lax about things like CCW than National Park Service (Lake Mead), because of the differences in their mandates and the purposes of their respective properties.
Good to hear the ranger was cool. BLM Ranger is probably like my dream job... |

What if you don't have a ccw? I'm not a fan of being out in the wilderness unarmed either but don't have the monies to get my permit right now.

Hello,
I spend many hours hiking and cleaning up litter within the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. In order to carry a firearm in the conservation area, one must comply with all local, state and federal laws. The BLM does have supplemental laws that are not commonly known. You can find these supplemental laws on the BLM's Red Rock Canyon website... http://www.blm.gov/pgdata/etc/medial...up%20Rules.pdf To sum it up. You can carry your REGISTERED (when required) weapon in Red Rock Canyon. If you conceal, you must obviously have a permit. However, posession of a LOADED firearm is prohibited in the National Conservation Area under the supplemental laws from the Federal Register. I have verified these laws with not only the local BLM office, but the state office as well. Of course, I have been told by several BLM employees (not LEOs) that you cannot carry in the canyon. After being challenged, they admitted that it is only a tactic to discourage individuals from carrying their firearms all together. Hope this helps! Steve |
