Keep It Simple Stupid iron sighted AR15s
Anyone else enjoy shooting bare bones iron sighted ARs? I have Colt AR15s with Aimpoint red dots and Surefire weapon lights for SHTF, but I find myself taking my keep it simple stupid(KISS) AR15s to the range more than my red dots. Just something about the challenge of hitting the steel plates out to 550 yards at BRPC with old school irons. This is a Colt 727ish inspired clone, the newer M4 stock and the side mounted front sling swivel being the obvious differences. I assembled this about 6 years ago, upper and lower. It originally had a Del Ton 16" 1/9" heavy profile barrel. Recently I re-barreled it with a more clone correct 14.5" with pin and weld extended flash hider 1/7" govt. profile barrel. This is a 400 yard gun,550 when I do my part.

I enjoyed trying out my Sig 516 Patrol with the pop up/fold down iron sights it came with. They were spot on.
However, I did want to get a red dot sight and eventually got an EOTech XPS-2. I am still trying to get use to it.

I go with iron sights on almost all of my rifles.

When I do have a scope or other optic, I try to have ensure I can use the iron sights as well.

This is especially important for my SHTF guns, because Murphy tells me that those are going to be the situations when batteries die and scopes get knocked out of alignment. ;)

Tried Aimpoints, Eotechs, 1-4x scopes and cheapo red dots and all too awkward for my AR15's... iron sights for me nothing else.

I like iron sights.

My eyes cannot use red dot sights properly. I see multiple dots.

I like iron sights too. Never have cared so much for the peep sight though. Not that it's that bad, I just like others better.

When I teach a carbine class, I always instruct my students on the use of iron sights first. Then they can use optics if they choose to do so.

I also do like iron sights on my rifles. Have an A2 Carbine similar to the OP and my AR15 pistol has nothing attach to it except a pair of Daniel Defense iron sights (also serve as my home defense piece and I think I need to add just one more item to it so I can see in the dark).
